The Ntaria Ladies Choir CD and launch

On August 11 2011 Big hART helped the Ntaria Ladies Choir and community to launch their new CD Tjina Kngarra (The Best of Friends) at the event Aramala Wutjika (While looking, Listening).

A huge event, watched by over 200 of the community, it was live webcast to an audience of over 600 at Melbourne’s Malthouse Theatre.

The CD would not have been possible without the support and donations of Friends of the Namatjira Project.

On Country Painting Workshops

When the discussions about the project first began with the Namatjira family, the artists made it clear that they wanted to be able to paint on country. With vehicles hard to come by and petrol expensive, it was no easy task for the artists to get out to the sites that informed their art.

As such, Big hART made on country painting workshops an integral part of the project. Throughout 2011, these workshops were held every four weeks. This was made possible by donations from the Friends of Namatjira, as well as the support from our project partners.

To read more about on country art workshops check out this blog post about a painting trip to the Finke River.

Albert, a children’s book

Whilst this fantastic bilingual children’s book – written in English and Arrrarata – was created well before the Namatjira Project started, many of the Friends of Namatjira have supported the Ntaria (Hermannsburg) community by buying a copy.

The beautiful full colour book tells the story of Albert Namatjira through the paintings of children from his home community. It was written by Damien Kamholtz, in collaboration with Lenie Namatjira & her family, David Roennfeldt, and the children of Ntaria.

All proceeds from the sale of this book go directly to the Ntaria School.  If you wish to buy a copy please contact Namatjira Associate Producer Cecily for payment details at cecilybighart@gmail.com.au or 0n 02 9557 3076.
